Spring Retreat

Imagine if you stopped thinking about writing and just started writing.
Are you ready to silence the external distractions and finally listen to the stories inside you waiting to be told?
Steal away to the Point Reyes National Seashore for a transformative weekend retreat of rest, reflection, connection, and writing, embraced by nature and a sisterhood of creative, big-hearted women writers.
A Place Where Words Flow Naturally
Join me at Limantour Lodge in Point Reyes National Seashore. Nestled between rolling hills and the Pacific Ocean, you’ll be surrounded by rugged cliffs, windswept beaches, and Bishop Pine forests. Spring brings this landscape to life with carpets of wildflowers, returning birds, and freely roaming tule elk. As day turns to night, experience star-filled skies uncompromised by city lights while gentle coastal fog creates a mystical atmosphere.
With hiking trails starting at your doorstep and the beautiful Limantour Beach nearby for shell collecting and sunset watching, this retreat offers 24 hours entirely yours for writing and reflection—a perfect escape to disconnect from everyday distractions and reconnect with your creative practice.
What the Weekend Holds
Think summer camp, but for grown-ass writers without the counselors. During this rejuvenating 1½-day writing retreat, you’ll have the time and space to deepen your writing practice. Surrounded by nature’s tranquility—from the gentle rhythm of ocean waves to peaceful walks through the landscape—you’ll be encouraged to reconnect with your most authentic, creative self. From cozy accommodations to nourishing, delicious meals, Meesha Halm, founder of Free-Range Writing—a radically supportive women’s writing community—takes care of all the details, allowing you to immerse yourself fully in the creative flow without distractions. This is your time to relax, reflect, and write in the company of like-minded women.
Feel free to arrive early Friday afternoon to soak in some peaceful beach time before we gather for sunset. Once you park your car, you’ll have blissful hours for unwinding, dedicated writing time, and being fully present without worrying about driving anywhere.
I know April 12 is the first night of Passover, so I will ensure the afternoon session wraps up early enough for those who need to get back home.

Your Home for the Weekend

Limantour Lodge is the only overnight accommodation at Point Reyes National Seashore, between Point Reyes Station and Inverness. The Lodge is already sold out to the general public for 2025, but I’ve reserved the private Laguna Creek House and Meadow Suites exclusively for our intimate group of writers. It’s a perfect backdrop for slowing down, paying attention to the natural beauty of our world, and writing about it.
Limantour Lodge is an ideal getaway for nature lovers, folks who want a getaway from the hustle and bustle of city and suburban life, and writers seeking restoration, inspiration, and reflection. The Lodge has hiking trails that lead directly to the beach from outside your room. With its rich biodiversity, Point Reyes National Seashore is a haven for outdoor enthusiasts and wildlife lovers, providing a sanctuary for numerous species of plants and animals along its marshes and coastline.

About Free-Range Writing
Free-Range Writing is a transformative, timed-writing technique that helps you bypass your inner critic and unlock your true stories. During the retreat, we’ll use this process to uncover, awaken, and reclaim your stories in a safe, nonjudgmental space. You’ll write quickly for 15 minutes, allowing your pen and mind to roam freely.
Afterward, the group goes around the circle and shares what they’ve written while others practice silent, generous listening. There is no judgment. No critiques. We write, share, and bear witness to each other’s stories as we courageously do the same. We’ll do this three times throughout the weekend, allowing us to go deeper with each round.

Transforming Lives
Here’s what some of my past students have said about their experience in my writing workshops and circles.
“Meesha’s Free Range Writing Circle is truly a gift. I went in with the intention of simply practicing my writing and hoped it would help motivate me to get words on paper. What I found was that the class provided that incentive—and so much more. Meesha’s calm guidance helps each participant reach deep into our heart and write what is really on our minds. The process of writing, reading and having witness to my words helped to heal parts of me I didn’t even know existed. We all cried at least once, we laughed at the little things in life and I really came away with a sense of accomplishment for getting my story onto paper. Who knew a few hours writing furiously, pen to paper, could really transform my perspective on life.”
“Meesha is a talented leader whose kindness and care will help you know yourself more deeply. She creates a supportive and generous space that allows you to be vulnerable and show up as you are. ”
“I am so grateful to have found Meesha’s Free-Range Writing Circle! My journey in her sessions has been one of discovery and growth. I went in thinking about myself one way and uncovered new and fascinating things that I had not expected to think or feel. To be in the company of other brilliant and generous members has been a blessing. I appreciate the safe space to share and explore my thoughts, feelings, and dreams. I am making Free-Range part of my self-care regimen.”
“This was totally out of my comfort zone and I’m so glad I did it. I had an emotional release that I did not know I needed. I feel compelled to get the journal out and continue writing. Thank you for providing me with and encouraging this new outlet. My resistance to writing is generally due to my perfectionism so the Free-Range Writing was liberating. Meesha, thank you so much.”
